WaFreeNet IP Allocation
WaFreeNet is currently using IP's within the 10.48.0.0/12 range (Perth is 10.60.x.x). Each AP may route connections differently, so you should speak to your AP admin about the optimum way to route into WaFreeNet.
The currently assigned subnets can be seen here, and for historical purposes, the old system we used to use before the wiki was implemented is here. Please make contact with the friendly people in the IRC channel if you have an IP allocation inquiries.
IP Allocation to Clients
Clients can apply for an IP (or a small subnet if running services) from the administrator of the AP they are connecting to. This makes it easier for the AP administrator to setup the correct routes for you. You should also ask the admin how best to setup your routing to suit the AP. Please note that some AP's offer DHCP to allow prospective clients to connect and test their connections. These allocations rarely give full access to WaFreeNet, so you will need to apply for a permanent IP in order to taste all the fruits the network has to offer.
IP Allocation to Access Points
AP's can apply for a subnet upon successfully setting up a permanent connection to WaFreeNet. It would be desirable for AP's with clients who do not yet have a connection to the rest of WaFreeNet to setup DNS using the WaFreeNet standard (being [blah].wafreenet). This way when you do become connected to the WaFreeNet, the change-over of IP's will not affect your clients if they are accustomed to using DNS names to reach your services. If you have a connection to WaFreeNet via other means, a temporary IP can be assigned. Please make contact in IRC if you need any info on IP ranges and routing.
