THE NETWORK
The WaFreeNet consists of a number of publicly accessible Access Points, allowing clients to connect to them with 802.11a/b/g/n compliant wireless network equipment. Access to these 'hubs' is free, with the only cost to users being their own hardware and antennae, etc. Ideally, these Access Points are also connected together, allowing clients from one hub to utilise resources situated on a different hub in the network infrastructure.
WaFreeNet's size is very dynamic - access points come and go as people move house etc. It is the linking together (bridging or routing) of these hubs that will provide the greatest benefit for users of the WaFreeNet.
The infrastructure of the WaFreeNet is therefore comprised of Access Points and Clients. To give a brief overview of the !WAFreeNet as it stands, the following briefly describes each of the hubs recognised as members of WaFreenet. The information listed on this page should be enough for you to connect to an AP if you have a LOS (line of sight) to it. The excelent HeyWhatsThat Path Profiler is extremely useful for roughly determining LOS between two locations. For additional information please visit the website of the Access Point of interest.
