IP and Subnet Allocations for the WaFreeNet
We use mostly BGP for propagating routes on WaFreeNet, primarily because members have found it to be resilient to packet loss. Please make contact in the IRC channel once you have an access point running and linked in to the WaFreeNet. We can assign you an Autonomous System (AS) number to get your BGP configuration working and broadcasting your routes to the rest of the WaFreeNet.
Rules for IP/Subnet Allocation
- Liaise with the owner of the upstream node to have a subnet assigned and BGP neighbor configuration done.
Best point of contact is currently Mitch or Jabawok on IRC. See also the Contact page.
- Most likely you will be assigned with a /24 to keep things simple.
- We try and leave a /24 between each separate AP though so that AP's have room for expansion if they need it (rare).
