• www.e3.com.au is launched, and provides a weblog and online meeting venue for interested parties |
Nov 2001 |
• First meeting of interested parties in Belmont location. Resulted in raising enough money in donations (organised by e3) to purchase the HillsHub Access Point |
Dec 2001 |
• Hills Hub was 'created & in testing' and got it's first client being BigWilly tower in Belmont |
Jan 2002 |
• Hills Hub (Kalamunda), becomes permanent and forms the first AP in AP group 1 |
Mar 2002 |
• BayNetworks (Bayswater), created and connected to AP group 1 |
April 2002 |
• IP addressing and subnetting for WaFreeNet discussed and finalised at a public meeting. |
July 2002 |
• MorleyAirNet (Morley) joins AP Group 1 |
Aug 2002 |
• Menora net (Menora) joins AP group 1 |
Sept 2002 |
• CoastFreeNet joined to Hills Hub via point to point link between Hills Hub and DVNe. CoastFreeNet comprises of CTNet, DVNet, Wireless Gamers, Gwelup.Net |
Oct 2002 |
• MartinMast AP (Martin) linked into AP Group 1 via BayNetworks |
Nov 2002 |
• DVNet relocates to new suburb, splitting CoastFreeNet and dropping CoastFreeNet from AP Group 1 |
Dec 2002 |
• Medina net (Medina) created and connected to AP Group 1 via a WAIX CIPE tunnel |
Jan 2003 |
• Osborne Park #1 AP is erected as a community effort |
Feb 2003 |
• GreenNet (Greenwood) goes online and connects to AP group 1 via a WAIX VPN tunnel |
May 2003 |
• BayNetworks (Bayswater), changes over to linux to run the AP (yay!). WaFreeNet community effort to install and configure. Well done guys. |
June 2003 |
• Forrestfield.Net is no more. Equipment required for other purposes. |
July 2003 |
• Frottle proves more ueful to HH clients in eliminating hidden node problems and evenly distributing bandwidth, than WiCCP in the current state of each package. The decision to stick with Frottle and prepare it for public release made. (WiCCP will be revisited pending further development). |
Aug 2003 |
• Frottle released to the public, as a free solution for hidden nodes problems inherent to 802.11b over 'affordable' hardware. |
Dec 2003 |
• Belmont AP connected to HillsHub |
Mar 2004 |
• BGP routing effective through most of the major Access Points |
April 2004 |
• CanningNet links into the main mesh, also taking over peering for MartinMast |
Jan 2005 |
• SGNet installed, initially with an uplink to MartinMast |
Apr 2005 |
• ArmadaleAP installed, with an uplink to CanningNet |

• SouthArmadale installed, with an uplink to ArmadaleAP |

• WAFreeNet gathering held at Jandakot node (Jandakot airport), with lots of interested people turning up. |
Sept 2007 |
• HillsHub Decommissioned. Property changed hands. This effectively left wafreenet in very bad shape. There were many pockets of networks but nothing connecting them together. |
Mar 2009 |
• www.e3.com.au domain name put up for sale |
May 2009 |
• Mystic AP moves from Padbury to a high point in Beldon. Mystic Establishes link to Dericote tower. |
Jun 2009 |
• WannerooMarkets AP established. Links to Mitchland |
Aug 2009 |
• Spiked AP (Landsdale) established. Links to Mystic |
Sep 2009 |
• NHE AP (Hocking) established, Links to Mitchland |
Oct 2009 |
